Four charged in connection with the fatal assault of a man in Peterborough

Peterborough police responded to a call near the intersection of Brock Street and George Street North at around 9:50 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

When officers arrived, they discovered that a verbal dispute had escalated into a physical confrontation involving the victim and a larger group of individuals. The victim was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Monday, May 19, 2025.

Following an investigation, authorities identified four individuals believed to be involved. It appears the victim and suspects had multiple interactions throughout the evening, and investigators believe the incident was deliberate.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, detectives arrested 26-year-old Matthew Janssen-Supernault was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault. He was held for a court appearance on Monday, May 19th.

Detectives arrested two additional suspects on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Dylan Moffatt, 24, has been charged with manslaughter and remains in custody ahead of a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Matthew Smith, 35, also faces a manslaughter charge and is in custody, awaiting a court hearing on the same date.

A fourth individual, 24-year-old Noah Stetski, surrendered to police on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. He was arrested and charged with manslaughter and is being held pending a court appearance on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
