On Monday, October 6, 2025, around 9:45 p.m., police responded to a business near Vulcan Street and Iron Street in Toronto, where they discovered a deceased individual.
Following a post-mortem examination completed on October 8, the death was officially ruled a homicide. The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Derrick Cheung of Brampton. His photo has since been released by investigators.

This incident marks Toronto’s 33rd homicide of 2025.
On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, Lennard Emptage, 36, of Georgetown, was arrested and initially charged with Improper/Indecent Interference with a Dead Body. He appeared in court the following day, Wednesday, October 8, at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre.
Later that same day, Emptage was also charged with Second Degree Murder.
According to reports, the victim and suspect were known to each other, and they were coworkers.
