On Wednesday, October 9, 2025, at around 4:53 p.m., York Regional police responded to reports of an assault in progress on Lorraine Street, near Bernard Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition but was later pronounced dead.
The suspect was located and arrested without incident a short distance from the scene.
Investigators determined the victim had been outside his home when he was suddenly attacked. Police believe the suspect and the victim were strangers and had no prior connection.
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, the Office of the Chief Coroner identified the victim as 54-year-old Amir Shafei of Richmond Hill. His cause of death was confirmed as blunt force trauma.
Raymond Kim, 23, of Richmond Hill was arrested and charged with:
- Second Degree Murder
- Two counts of Breach of Probation
At the time of the incident, Kim was under two separate probation orders related to unrelated offences.
