RCMP officers were called to a home in Hopedale following an emergency report of an assault. Upon arrival, they discovered one man deceased inside the residence, showing signs of trauma consistent with foul play. A second individual was found nearby with significant injuries and was given immediate medical attention.
As a precaution, a brief shelter-in-place advisory was issued for the community while police worked quickly to locate the suspect. The individual, identified as Michael Tuglavina, was arrested shortly afterward. On May 17, he was formally charged with both first-degree murder and attempted murder. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Police have confirmed that the suspect and both victims were known to each other, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
