Second-degree murder charges dropped against Annabelle Edwards and Felicia Elanik in 2024 Inuvik man’s death; manslaughter trial planned

Inuvik RCMP responded to the report of a deceased person on August 25th.

On arrival police located a 39-year-old man deceased.

According to CBC the deceased was Ronald Phillip “Iyak” Binder Jr.

Investigators said as a result of the investigation, 24-year-old Annabelle Edwards and 20-year-old Felicia Elanik, both of Inuvik, were arrested and charged with second-degree murder and performing an indignity to human remains.

Both are expected to appear in court in Yellowknife on September 3rd.

Update: On Wednesday March 11th, 2026, Crown prosecutors withdrew second-degree murder charges against Annabelle Edwards and Felicia Elanik, from Inuvik, but they are scheduled to face trial later for manslaughter.

The RCMP have not disclosed the identity of the deceased man, and a publication ban is in place for evidence from the preliminary inquiry.
