Cobourg Police Service received a call for reports of gun shots inside the Northumberland Hills Hospital at approximately 11:00pm on October 27th.

On arrival two police officers had an interaction with 70-year-old man inside the emergency room of the hospital, when both officers shot at the man. The 70 year old man was hit and died at the scene.

Police said a 70 year old man and his 76 year old wife were at the Northumberland Hills Hospital for undisclosed reasons, and while in a room together a gunshot was heard. Nursing staff said the woman suffered a head wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
