A man from Chetwynd, B.C., has appeared in provincial court after prosecutors upgraded the charge against him from second-degree to first-degree murder in the death of Carlene Engellend.
Kenneth Albert Wood, who remains in custody at the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre, is accused of killing Engellend, whose death was discovered on March 9, 2025, after emergency crews responded to a medical call.
Initially deemed suspicious, the case was taken over by RCMP major crimes, and Wood was charged later that year. The court adjourned proceedings to allow the defence to review new evidence disclosed by the Crown.
