Update Suspect Arrested – Warrant issues for the arrest of Kenneth Richards in relation to the death of Brittany Vande Lagemaat

Edmonton police  responded to a weapons complaint in the area of 78 Street and 143 Avenue on April 23rd at approximately 1:50 pm.

Police and paramedics arrived to find Brittany Vande Lagemaat, 25, with serious injuries. Vande Legemaat was rushed to hospital where she died of her injuries. An Autopsy was conducted, however the cause of death has not been released.

According to Edmonton police” it was reported that a male suspect, identified as Kenneth Richards, 35, allegedly broke into a residence in the area and, a short time later, a gunshot was reportedly heard.”

A province-wide warrants have been issued for the arrest of Kenneth Richards. He is wanted for second-degree murder, housebreaking with intent, possess a prohibited loaded/restricted firearm, possess a prohibited firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and breach of recognizance. Police said the victim and the suspect were known to eachother.

Richards is described as 5’11” tall, weighs 160 lbs and has blue eyes and short brown hair with a receding hair line. He has the word “Brittany” tattooed on his left forearm. Richards is to be considered armed and dangerous, do not approach him and contact the EPS immediately at 780-423-4567.

Update May 7th
Kenneth Richards was arrested without incident on Thursday, May 3rd,  in the area of 24 Avenue and 107 Street. Richards has been charged with second-degree murder, housebreaking with intent, possess a prohibited loaded/restricted firearm, possess a prohibited firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and breach of recognizance.
