Elk Valley RCMP responded to a report of a deceased 49-year-old man in the 100 block of Aspen Drive in Sparwood on November 2, 2025. Due to the circumstances surrounding the death, the Southeast District Major Crime Unit took over the investigation.

After an extensive investigation, Tracy Erickson of Sparwood was arrested on October 28, 2026, and charged with one count of manslaughter in connection with the man’s death.

Sgt. Simon Caruth of the Southeast District Major Crime Unit said the charge followed a lengthy investigation involving officers and several policing partners. He also thanked members of the public who provided information, along with the agencies that assisted investigators.

RCMP acknowledged the support of Elk Valley RCMP, British Columbia Highway Patrol and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section throughout the investigation.

With the case now before the courts, police say no further information will be released at this time.
