Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP received a request to assist EMS at a residence on Montreal Lake Cree Nation on November 12, 2023 at approximately 3:15 a.m.

On arrival police located 41-year-old Kevin Stewart from Montreal Lake Cree Nation deceased at the scene.

Police arrested Walker Smith, 29, at the scene. As a result of the investigation led by Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes, Smith has been charged with one count, second-degree murder, and one count, of uttering threats.

Walker Smith is remanded into custody until his scheduled appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on November 14, 2023
