Calgary police responded to a shooting at a parking lot at the Trans Canada Centre, located in the 1400 block of 52 Street N.E, on November 13th at approximately 2 p.m.
On arrival police located a deceased man, Rami Hajj Ali, 23, and two additional victims with serious, life-threatening injuries. The two additional victims were taken to hospital.
It is believed offenders fled the scene prior to police arrival. Investigators are collecting CCTV footage from the area and speaking to witnesses.
Update: Police received valuable information from witnesses at the scene, including a description of the suspects and their vehicle, a black truck. Minutes after the incident, patrol officers observed the black truck being driven at high rates of speed in northeast and southeast Calgary. Investigators said they later found the truck abandoned in the parking lot of CF Chinook Centre, located at 6455 Macleod Trail S.W., where the occupants entered a waiting vehicle and fled to two residences located in the 3200 and 3400 block of 30A Avenue S.E.
Officers took multiple individuals into custody. Throughout the night, investigators worked to determine each person’s involvement. Charges have now been laid against two brothers, aged 14 and 18.
The 14-year-old male has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. The 18-year-old male has been charged with one count of accessory to murder after the fact. Due to this individual’s relation to the youth, he also cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Update: Charges have been dropped against the two teens after a social media video of the shooter surfaced.
