Minors pleads guilty to lesser charge in relation to the death of a 12-year-old boy in Saskatoon

Saskatoon police patrol officers responded to a report on the 1000 block of Matheson Drive regarding a male youth who had sustained a serious injury on February 19th at approximately 3:00am.

The 12-year-old boy was transported to hospital for treatment however succumbed to his injury a short time later. Police have not released the victim’s identity or cause of death.

Saskatoon Police have arrested and charged a 12-year-old male and 13-year-old male with manslaughter in connection to the suspicious death. Both teens are also being charged with four weapons-related offences.

Update: The 12-year-old boy from Saskatoon, who was charged with manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge. In youth court, he pleaded guilty to being involved in criminal negligence that led to the death. His 13-year-old co-accused, who also faced manslaughter charges, will go to trial in June.

Update August 2025:
The 15-year-old, who was 13 when the incident occurred, previously pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing death and is being sentenced under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
