Two Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Greenstone Homicide Investigation

Greenstone OPP Detachment and the Anishinabek Police Service responded to reports of gunfire near Echum Drive in Ginoogaming First Nation, in the early hours of Wednesday, October 8, 2025, around 2:15 a.m.

When police arrived, they discovered one person deceased at the scene and another suffering from serious injuries.

As a result of a joint investigation, both individuals, two males, ages 18 and 15, both from Brampton, Ontario, have been charged with:

  • Second-degree murder
  • Attempted murder using a firearm

The accused remain in custody and are expected to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay at a future date.

The OPP North West Region Crime Unit is continuing the investigation in collaboration with the Anishinabek Police Service, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. The Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are also involved.

Community members in Ginoogaming First Nation should be aware of an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues.
