Update: Man who pleaded guilty sentenced to life in Prison – Toronto Homicide #12, 2020 – Ashley Noell Arzaga stabbed to death, 17-year-old boy charged

Toronto police responded to a call for a stabbing in the Dufferin Street and Wilson Avenue area., on February 24th at approximately 12:40 pm.

Police arrived and located a man and woman suffering from multiple stab wounds outside the premises. Police then located Ashley Noell Arzaga, 24, of Toronto, inside of the premises deceased.

Police arrested a 17-year old boy and charged him with first-degree murder and attempted murder.

Update May 19th

RCMP stated in a press release that Toronto Police Service contacted the RCMP Integrated National Security Enforcement Team after uncovering evidence that this crime was potentially a “terrorist activity” as defined in section 83.01(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada. RCMP INSET, Toronto Police Service, the Ministry of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecution Service of Canada determined that this crime was in fact one in which the accused was inspired by the Ideologically Motivated Violent Extremist movement commonly known as INCEL (involuntary celibate).
The youth appeared in court via video, at 2201 to answer to these updated charges:
– First-Degree Murder – Terrorist Activity, invoking Section 231 (6.01) of the Criminal Code;
– Attempted Murder, Section 239(1) – Terrorist Activity, Section 2, 83.01(b) and 83.27 of the Criminal Code.

Update November 28th 2023,
The man, who cannot be identified because he was underage at the time of the attack pleaded guilty to the incel-inspired murder. An Ontario judge sentenced him to life in prison with no chance of parole for 10 years, as well as 3 years for attempted murder.
