Police said an 18 year old man was allegedly struck by a Ford F150 truck after an altercation in Edmonton’s West end on May 22nd.
Jade Belcourt died in hospital of his injuries. The Medical examiner determined the cause of death to blunt craniocervical spine trauma, and the manner of death has been deemed a homicide.
Justin Handbury, 31, turned himself into police on May 24th.
Handbury’s charges are as follows:
second degree murder, attempt to commit murder, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property over $5,000, failing to stop at the scene of an accident (x2) and breach of recognizance (x3).
Update May 28th
Edmonton police have said that new information has led investigators to withdraw the charges against Handbury including second-degree murder. Police are not releasing any other details at this time.
