Update: The body of Rock Jones found while searching for evidence – Sudbury police investigate a homicide after Carol Fournier was found dead in a wooded area.

On November 8, 2023, officers were dispatched to the wooded area West of McNeil Boulevard, North of the railway tracks after a community member located what was believed to be a deceased person at approximately 2:40 p.m.

On arrival, police located the body of a 40-year-old woman who they confirmed to be deceased. She has been identified as, Carol Fournier. A post-mortem will be conducted today, November 9, 2023, through the Coroner’s Office to assist in determining the cause of death.

Police said Carol was seen on video surveillance footage, walking alone, on Beatty Street around 12:45 p.m. on November 8, 2023. Carol’s body was located shortly before 2:40 p.m. in a wooded area West of McNeil Boulevard, North of the railway tracks (image of area attached).

Carol was last seen and found wearing a grey, mid-length FXR coat with fur around the hood, blue jeans, black rubber boots with grey trim around the top and black sunglasses. Carol was carrying a grey purse and a green reusable shopping bag.

Investigators said the woman’s death is being treated as a homicide investigation and Detectives from the Major Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the incident.

Update On November 11th the Search and Rescue Unit located 47-year-old, Rick Jones deceased in the wooded area West of McNeil Boulevard, North of the railway tracks while conducting an evidence search in relation to the murder of Carol Fournier. A post-mortem will be conducted through the Coroner’s Office on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, to assist in determining the cause of death, however at this time foul play is not suspected.

Police said “In consultation with Carol’s family, we can confirm that prior to her being murdered, she was in a relationship with Rick Jones and both outstanding arrest warrants for Rick were for Intimate Partner Violence incidents involving Carol. We continue to ask that you respect the privacy of Carol’s family during this tragic time.”
