La Ronge RCMP received a report of an injured person at a residence in La Ronge on November 8, 2023 at approximately 8:20 a.m.
Police and paramedics located 42-year-old Randy Halkett suffering from injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he was later declared deceased. His cause of death has not been released.
Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is now investigating the male’s death as a homicide. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
Update Saskatchewan RCMP announced on November 14th that Major Crimes charged, 24-year-old Garrett McDonnell, 35-year-old John McDonnell and 28-year-old Jared Gale, all of Lac La Ronge Indian Band, with one count, manslaughter. Investigators arrested Garrett McDonnell and Jared Gale on November 8, 2023, less than 24 hours after the initial report was received.
John McDonnell has not been located and there is a warrant for his arrest. He is described as being 5’10” tall, 221 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He may be in the communities of La Ronge and surrounding areas. If you see John McDonnell, do not approach him and contact police immediately by calling 911.
