Saanich police and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit responded to a home in the 3400-block of Bethune Avenue near Uptown shopping centre on October 19th.

On arrival police located two deceased victims. Saanich Police and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit are investigating two homicides that appear to be related. One male is in custody.

36-year-old Christopher Cathcart has been charged with one count of Second-Degree Murder, in relation to one of the victims Stephanie Elk.  Cathcart, of no fixed address, is being held in custody.

Detective Sergeant Damian Kowalewich said “Investigators are satisfied that the two homicides had no connection to any of the residents of this neighbourhood, and that the occupants of the residence connected to the investigation were not involved in this tragic incident.”

Police believe that there is a relationship between Cathcart and one of the victims and continue to investigate the circumstances of the other homicide.
