Police say they were notified Saturday, October 24th, in the evening about an incident that took place earlier in the day at the Beaver Creek Institution.

Investigators said, the man was taken to hospital after the altercation, where he later died. He has been identified as 45-year-old Devon Paskimin, a resident of Gravenhurst.

According to Corrections Canada, at the time of death, the inmate was 45 years old and had been serving a life sentence since May 12, 2003.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Beaver Creek Institution is a correctional facility with both minimum- and medium-security units.

The investigation remains ongoing.
