Sackville RCMP responded to a check on welfare of an individual living at a residence on King Street on October 12, 2023, at approximately 4:15 p.m.
Police arrived, and they discovered the body of a deceased woman. The victim was identified as Marlene Cheryl Crossman. The New Brunswick RCMP’s Major Crime Unit determined the woman’s death to be a homicide.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. on the same day, 62-year-old Roger Crossman turned himself in to the Antigonish RCMP detachment in Nova Scotia, and was subsequently arrested in connection with the investigation. Roger Crossman has been charged with first degree murder of Marlene Cheryl Crossman. He was remanded into custody, and was ordered to undergo a thirty-day psychiatric assessment
Update — September 29, 2026
On September 25, 2026, Roger Hilyard Crossman appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and improperly or indecently interfering with a dead human body or human remains.
Crossman was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on October 27, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for sentencing.
