Rocco Zito 87 shot dead by his son in-law Domenico Scopelliti

Toronto Police were called to a house for reports of a shooting on Playfair Avenue around 5 p.m. on Friday. Police released the name of the suspect Domenico Scopelliti at 11pm. Scopelliti  turned himself into Toronto police after hearing his name on the news.

Motive for the murder has not been determined.

Toronto police have charged Domenico Scopelliti 51 with first degree murder in the shooting death of his father in-law,  Rocco Zito 87.

Zito was suspected of having ties to the Calabrian mob. In 1980, Rocco Zito was convicted of manslaughter in the beating death of a photographer who apparently was connected to a loan sharking operation.
