Yarmouth Rural RCMP and fire responded to a house fire on Melbourne Rd in Pinkney’s Point on March 17th at approximately 2:00am.

After the fire was extinguished, human remains were discovered inside the home. The remains were identified as Joseph Wickens, 43, of Stoney Island.

The Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit had taken over the investigation.

On April 27, Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime arrested Dillon Burton Deveau, 30, of North Chegoggin and charged him with First Degree Murder. 

Update May 27th
On May 24th, Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime arrested Michael Roland Surette, 41, of Pinkney’s Point, in Dartmouth. RCMP and Brooklyn Gavel, 20, of Pinkney’s Point, in Middleton. Both men have been charged with First Degree Murder.
