Quebec City Police Department responded to an armed assault on Eugène-Lamontagne Avenue on August 6th at approximately 12:55am.

On arrival police located Jordan Lumbala, 30, and a woman in her twenties suffering from injuries. Both victims were transported to a hospital where the man was pronounced deceased. The female victim is expected to survive.

A man in his thirties, Michel Mwendanga, was arrested at the scene.

Update October 16th 2026: Michel Mwendanga, 33, has been found guilty of manslaughter in the August 6, 2024, stabbing death of his brother, Jordan Lumbala, in a Quebec City apartment. Mwendanga admitted to stabbing his brother but argued he acted in self-defence, claiming Lumbala attacked him during a confrontation. Prosecutors argued the killing stemmed from years of resentment and jealousy, while testimony from family members revealed Mwendanga had repeatedly threatened his brother. Jurors rejected the self-defence argument but concluded he did not intend to kill Lumbala, resulting in a manslaughter conviction rather than second-degree murder. Sentencing will be addressed at a later date.
