On June 16, 2026, officers with the Sarnia Police Service responded to a sudden death report at a residence in the 400 block of Nelson Street in Sarnia.
When officers arrived, they discovered 18-year-old Leia Cooper deceased inside the home. Police began an investigation and requested a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
In October 2026, the Office of the Chief Coroner determined the cause of Leia’s death. Following these findings and further investigative work, Sarnia police executed a search warrant on October 21, 2026, and arrested a 21-year-old man from Sarnia.
The man has been charged with manslaughter and trafficking in a controlled substance.
As the case is now before the courts, police have stated that no additional details, including the cause of death, will be made public at this time.
