Officers were called to the McDonald’s parking lot at 63 Crowfoot Way N.W. around 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, after reports of a physical altercation between two men. When police arrived, they spoke with both individuals, who declined medical help and chose not to pursue the matter further. Once officers confirmed the situation had been resolved and one of the men had left, they cleared the scene.
Later that afternoon, at approximately 3:55 p.m., emergency crews were called back to the same location for a man in medical distress. The man, one of the individuals involved in the earlier dispute—was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition and died on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025.
The victim has been identified as 76-year-old Kwok Leung Lau.
Police report that the victim and the suspect were acquainted. Chiu Man Yuen, 79, was initially charged with aggravated assault, but that charge has now been upgraded to manslaughter following Lau’s death.
