Kingston Police Investigate Suspected Femicide Following Fatal Domestic Incident

On the afternoon of May 16, 2025, around 2:45 p.m., Kingston Police officers, including members of the Patrol Division and Emergency Response Unit, responded to a reported disturbance in the area of Berrywood Crescent and Juniper Drive.

Upon arrival, officers found a man who had barricaded himself inside a residence on Berrywood Crescent. When police entered the home, they discovered a 25-year-old woman with multiple serious injuries. She was transported to hospital but later died from her wounds.

A man who was also inside the home at the time was arrested at the scene. Kingston Police have since charged 26-year-old Hadden Harper-Brewer with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his intimate partner.

Investigators are treating this case as a femicide—defined as the killing of women or girls on the basis of their gender—though it is not yet formally recognized in the Criminal Code.
