Rankin Inlet RCMP officers responded to a call reporting a sudden death at a home on Inukshuk Avenue on April 30, 2025, around 9:00 a.m.
The Nunavut RCMP Major Crime Unit (MCU) soon took over the case and, with support from local officers, determined that the circumstances surrounding the death were suspicious and likely involved criminal activity.
Following months of investigation, the MCU announced on December 10, 2025, that 54-year-old Jay Camphaug was charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of 55-year-old Tony Van Eindhoven.
Camphaug has been remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 15, 2025, in Rankin Inlet.
