Update Charges laid – Integrated Homicide Investigation Team investigating the suspicious death of Surinderjit Singh, located in a parking lot in Maple Ridge

Ridge Meadows RCMP received a report from BC Emergency Health Services about a body located in a parking lot near the 21800 block of 122 Avenue on March 4th at approximately 7:30 am.

RCMP have not released the victim’s identity or cause of death, however, it’s being considered suspicious in nature and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is currently being deployed to Maple Ridge to take carriage of the investigation.

Police are also investigating a possible secondary scene near Acadia and Dewdney Truck Road, however at this time Police do not know if these scenes are related.

Update: The Victim has been identified as Surinderjit Singh, 55. He was not known to police and did not have a criminal record. Singh’s rented grey Hyundai Elantra was the vehicle found in the area of Dewdney Trunk Road and Acadia Street. Police are looking for dashcam footage from the area between 8 p.m. on March 3rd and 8 a.m. on March 4th.

Update May 13
On May 12, 2023, 33-year old Kimberley Buitenweg and 44-year old Joseph McWilliams, both of Maple Ridge were arrested in relation to the homicide. Charges of murder in the second degree have now been laid against both Buitenweg and McWilliams.
