Vancouver, British Columbia 2023 Homicide Victim List is available here
Vancouver police responded to the report of a stabbing at a home on Boundary Road and East 45th Avenue around 10 p.m. on March 3rd.
On arrival police located Caleb Morin, 22, suffering from serious stabbing injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.
Update May 9th 2025: A two-year joint investigation by Vancouver Police and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has led to the arrest of a suspect linked to two separate murders in Surrey and Vancouver.
Nahom Gizaw, 21, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder following the deaths of 18-year-old Maanav Kinkar in Surrey in May 2022 and 22-year-old Caleb Morin in Vancouver in March 2023. Though the victims had no known connection, investigators from both agencies collaborated closely and gathered evidence tying Gizaw to both cases.
He was arrested on May 8 near East 29th Avenue and Rupert Street in Vancouver and remains in custody.
Police say the cooperation between VPD and IHIT was critical in bringing the case to this stage. “While these homicides were not connected, the cooperation between our agencies led to the evidence we needed to make this arrest,” said VPD Constable Tania Visintin.
IHIT Sergeant Freda Fong called the charge approval a significant milestone and praised the teams’ efforts in maintaining the integrity of the investigation.
