Update: Yang ‘Christopher’ Liang charged – IHIT investigates the death of a woman near the University Endowment Lands

RCMP’s University Detachment responded to a call of a female in medical distress, inside a residence in the 5400-block of Shortcut Road, in the University Endowment Lands on March 13, 2024, at approximately 11:42 p.m.

Police said the female succumbed to her injuries.

Two individuals, a man and a woman, were arrested on scene in relation to the murder. IHIT now has conduct of the investigation and is working closely in partnership with the University Detachment, BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section.

IHIT is working to identify the victim, whom is believed to be an adult woman associated to the residence.

We are in the early stages of the investigation,” says Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. “We are asking anyone with information to please come forward as soon as possible.

Update March 21st – IHIT said Yang ‘Christopher’ Liang, 35, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. “As the parties were known to one another, investigators believe this may have been a tragic incident of intimate partner violence,” said IHIT spokesperson Corp. Esther Tupper.
