Gregory George Thomas Killed in Deliberately Set Young Street Fire; Michael Patrick Gordon Charged in Winnipeg’s Third Homicide of 2026

Winnipeg, Manitoba 2026 Homicide Victim List

Winnipeg Police Service responded to reports of a house fire in the 200 block of Young Street on February 12, 2026, just after 6:00 p.m.

When police arrived, crews from the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service were already at the scene working to contain the blaze. Two individuals were taken to hospital, one listed in critical condition and the other in stable condition. Tragically, the critically injured victim later died as a result of their injuries. A firefighter was also hurt during the response and transported to hospital in stable condition.

The deceased has been identified as 68-year-old Gregory George Thomas. Investigators determined that the fire was intentionally set

Due to the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit took over the investigation.

Police have charged 40-year-old Michael Patrick Gordon with Manslaughter and Arson –Disregard Human Life x 2. He remains in custody as the case proceeds through the court system.
