Garry Dean Brown charged with the murder of Ginnean Briggs-Scout on Oyen

RCMP said received a tip about personal belongings found along a rural road near Oyen on September 17, 2024. After searching the area, officers discovered the body of a 28-year-old woman from Lethbridge. Police did not release her identity however CBC identified her as Ginnean Briggs-Scout, 28.

Her parents told CBC “say Ginnean was living a high-risk lifestyle. Along with the addiction, she was working in Lethbridge’s sex trade, according to her family.”

Garry Dean Brown, a 61-year-old man from Vulcan, Alberta, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. The RCMP confirmed that the victim and Brown were familiar with each other, but they have not provided further details on their relationship or the ongoing investigation.

Brown remains in custody, having been denied bail. His next court appearance is set for November 27 in Hanna, where he is expected to enter a plea and an election.
