Fort Providence RCMP responded to calls indicating that three people had been shot in a residence on March 15th, 2025 at 12:46 am.

On arrival police located a 31-year-old male deceased in the residence. Another injured male was located and transported to the health center. The third male had already been taken to the health center before police arrival and was air lifted to Yellowknife to receive emergency treatment.

NWT RCMP Major Crime Unit, who are leading the investigation, have since charged Krystian Cogswell, 22, of Surrey, British Columbia with:

• Murder
• Attempted Murder
• Aggravated Assault (2 counts)
  

Cogswell was already facing a separate drug trafficking charge from Inuvik in 2024 and was under bail conditions that prohibited him from being in the Northwest Territories. Authorities are actively searching for him and urge anyone with information to contact local police or Crime Stoppers.
