Burnaby police were called to the report of a home invasion in the 7600 block of 17th Avenue on June 29th at approximately 7:00am.

On arrival police located Ryan Nagy, 19, who was pronounced deceased at the scene and a woman who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the incident is believed to be targeted.

IHIT has been notified and has assumed conduct of the investigation. Further details will be handled by the IHIT Media Relations Officer.

Update September 16th: IHIT announced that four people in their twenties have now been charged with manslaughter and forcible confinement. Police have not released their identities.

Update April 5th 2026: According to the Vancouver Sun, a B.C. Supreme Court judge has sentenced 22-year-old Ali Shamkhi to eight years in prison for his role in the 2023 killing of 19-year-old Ryan Nagy.

Shamkhi pleaded guilty to manslaughter and several weapons offences. The court heard he was among a group that broke into Nagy’s home, intending to steal firearms, during which Nagy was fatally stabbed.

The judge cited Shamkhi’s limited expressions of remorse and continued violent behaviour while in custody as aggravating factors. His guilty plea and age were considered mitigating.

Rais Muksa Usman received a six year sentence for Manslaughter in April.

Update Julyn 13th, 2026: Ousmane Keita has been sentenced to six years in prison for his role in the June 29, 2023, killing of 19-year-old Ryan Nagy.

After receiving credit for the time he spent in custody before being released on bail, Keita has five years and nine-and-a-half months remaining on his sentence.

Update: Rhoda Diabikulu, the fourth and final person to plead guilty to manslaughter in the death of a 19-year-old man during a home invasion in the Vancouver area, has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Diabikulu pleaded guilty to manslaughter in March and was sentenced on September 1st 2026, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

She received credit for 18 months already spent in pre-trial custody, leaving her with approximately five and a half years remaining to serve. As part of her sentence, Diabikulu has also been permanently banned from possessing firearms.
