The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service was called to the report of a shooting around 5:30 p.m. local time on Sept. 4.

Officers located one deceased individual and an injured person who was taken to a trauma centre and is reportedly in stable condition.

Police have arrested a suspect and say the incident appears to be isolated, with no ongoing threat to the community. The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police are continuing their investigation with the coroner’s office. According to CTV News, police identified the individual as “a Caucasian man not known to the community.”

Community leaders expressed sadness over the loss and urged residents to avoid speculation while investigators work to determine what happened.
