Emergency Crews were called to a fire at around 3 a.m. on September 1st at a residence on Skywood Drive, near Yonge Street and Gamble Road.
Jim Kettles from the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) stated that four individuals were rescued from inside the home, including at least one found in a bedroom on the second floor. A fifth person was discovered outside the property.
All five people, including an 11-year-old girl, were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police confirmed during a press briefing on Wednesday that the girl had died from her injuries on September 2nd.
Authorities previously reported the ages of the other victims as approximately 70, 59, 42, and mid-20s. They remain hospitalized in critical condition.
According to sources cited by CP24, all five individuals are related.
A red gas can was seen near a tree close to the home during the initial response to the fire, and investigators have since confirmed they suspect arson.
“The Office of the Fire Marshal continues to examine the scene alongside our investigators,” said Fiore, adding that the investigation remains active.
On September 3, 2025, Helya Bahari-Kashani, 24, of the City of Richmond Hill, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Update: After an in-depth investigation led by the Homicide Unit, with assistance from the Office of the Fire Marshal and other specialized teams, police identified two suspects who have now been charged. Investigators have released photos of the accused to help locate any additional suspects or associates and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The individuals charged are 42-year-old Camille Netricia Hall of Toronto and 30-year-old Smart George Idemudia Junior Obanor of Toronto. They face multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder, arson with disregard for human life, and arson causing damage to property. The investigation remains ongoing.
