On March 25, 2025, at around 12:10 p.m., Wollaston Lake RCMP were alerted to a serious injury near a residence on Hatchet Lake Denesuline First Nation.

Officers quickly arrived at the scene, where they discovered the body of 24-year-old Gaten Josie “Joseyounen” from the First Nation. Tragically, he was pronounced dead, and his family has been notified.

Given the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes has taken over the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone who lives in or traveled through Hatchet Lake Denesuline First Nation between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on March 25 to check their home security or dash cameras for any signs of unusual activity.
