Edmonton Police Southwest Branch patrol officers responded to an apartment complex in the area of 82 Avenue and 97 Street on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at approximately 5:13 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers located Krishnil Mani, 37, deceased inside a suite.
On Friday, June 28, 2024, the Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on Mani, and determined he died as a result of multiple stab wounds, and the manner of death was homicide.
Homicide detectives have since charged Nathan Nanemahoo, 34, with second-degree murder in relation to Mani’s death. Both men were known to one another.
In court, an agreed statement of facts outlined that Edmonton police responded to a 911 call at around 5:13 a.m. on June 26, 2024, made by Nanemahoo, who reported stabbing a man at his apartment on Whyte Avenue. Officers found the victim, Mani, lying in the living room with a pool of blood and a knife nearby. Mani had suffered 38 stab wounds to the neck, head, and upper back, with no defensive wounds noted.
The court heard that Nanemahoo knew Mani prior to the incident, as Mani had been staying at his apartment intermittently but was no longer welcome. Nanemahoo claimed he acted in self-defense, saying Mani threatened him with a knife. He had previously contacted police multiple times, asking them to remove Mani, who reportedly made threatening comments, including saying, “You know I’m a killer, right?” Mani also had a prior manslaughter conviction. A psychological report presented in court indicated that Nanemahoo faces significant developmental and mental health challenges, including an IQ of 71, PTSD, schizophrenia-like symptoms, and language skills comparable to a 12-year-old.
