Police searching for Mohammadali Darabi in relation to Calgary’s latest homicide

Calgary police were called to a residence in the 2300 block of Oakmoor Drive S.W, after a man was found deceased inside the home by a family member on October 15th at approximately 4:45pm.

Police initially said the death of the man in his 20’s was suspicious in nature, however they are now looking for a  person of interest, Mohammadali Darabi, 32, of Calgary.Darabi is being sought in connection with the death of his roommate.

It is believed that Darabi fled the scene in a silver-coloured, 2006 Toyota Corolla with Alberta plate BKW 1855. He is described at 6’1″ 168lbs.

Darabi should not be approached, call police at 911 if you have information about Darabi’s whereabouts.

Update October 18th
Police have identified the victim as Cyrus Ebrahimi, 29. Police found  the Corolla on October 17th in Revelstoke BC. As RCMP apporoached the vehicle they noticed a non responsive man inside. Police believe the driver of the vehicle was the suspect, however his identity had not been proven. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine cause of death and the drivers identity.

Update victim identified – Man dies of a gunshot wound in Calgary

Calgary police and paramedics were called to the 4600 block of Bowness Road N.W. at approximately 5:30 am, October 14th, on reports of a man in medical distress.

Emergency crews arrived to find a man in his 40’s suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Calgary police have identified the victim as Arnold Kerfont, 44, of Calgary.

Update: Valeri Lomakine stabbed to death in Calgary

Emergency crews responded to report of a stabbing in the parking lot of a building located in the 5700 block of 2 Street Southwest, in the Manchester Industrial area on September 6th at approximately 10 am .

Police and paramedics arrived to find 37 year old Valeri Lomakin suffering from serious injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Update September 29th
In the evening of September 28th, Calgary police arrested Michael Jordan Hope, 27, of Calgary. Hope has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of Valeri Lomakin.

Update: 4th body found in ditch linked to car fire: Homicide investigation underway after 3 found dead in a burned car

Calgary Fire department responded to a vehicle fire on July 10th at 7:00am in the 100 block of Sage Bluff Circle N.W. Once the fire was extinguished Crew members found bodies of a man and two women, in the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze.

Autopsies revealed the identity of Glynnis Fox, 36, Tiffany Ear 39, and Cody Pfeiffer, 25.

Cause of death has not been released.

Calgary police are asking for the public’s help in the whereabouts of Hanock Afowerk 28 (pictured below). The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is registered to Afowerk, and police are concerned for his safety.

Update: Police discovered a body July 12th near the traffic circle in the ditch at Highway 22 and Highway 8, and are calling the death suspicious. Police said they are no longer searching for Hanock Afowerk. An Autopsy is scheduled to take place on July 13th.

Update July 20

Yu Chieh Liao, 24, who goes by Diana Liao, is wanted for questioning in connection with the quadruple homicide investigation. Liao is an Asian female, 5’5” tall and 160 pounds. She has long dark hair and brown eyes.

Update July 28
Calgary police stated that Yu Chieh Liao, was arrested at approximately 7 p.m. in Toronto on July 27th.

Update October 11th
Yu Chieh Liao, 24, also known as Diana Liao, and Tewodros Mutugeta Kebede, 25, have both been charged with first-degree murder in relation to Hanock Afowerk’s death and three counts each of accessory after the fact in the deaths of Fox, Pfeiffer and Ear. Police said the pair could have further charges against them.

Update: Chandrababu Thambu, his son Preijanthan Chandrababu, murdered in Calgary

Calgary police were called to 100 block of Panamount Common N.W on June 10th at around 5:15pm on report of at least four injured people.

Police arrived to find 2 men dead in the home, and another 2 men injured.  The injured men were rushed to hospital, and are expected to survive.

Police said they aren’t looking for any suspects, as of June 11th no charges have been laid.

The death of the two men are Calgary’s 11th and 12th homicide this year. The Calgary Homicide list is available here.

Update June 14th

The victims have been identified as Chandrababu Thambu, 56, and his son Preijanthan Chandrababu, 25.  The suspect in the case is one of the other injured men. the 27 year old suspect was taken to hospital where he remains.

Update July 9th

Anandaloj Srianandan, 27, of Calgary has been released from hospital and  has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder. Srianandan is due to appear in court on July 10th.

Nigerian nursing student Nicolas Nwonye dies after random Calgary stabbing

Calgary police were called to the platform of the CTrain station at approximately 6:45pm June 2, 2017, on reports of a stabbing.

Police found the victim, Nicholas Nwonye 46, suffering from life threatening injuries. Nwonye was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Keeton Michel Gagnon, 39, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of second degree murder. Police said Gagnon was arrested immediately after the incident.

Nicholas Nwonye was a Nigerian engineer, and a married father of three who came to Canada from Nigeria just 18 months ago in search of a better life. Nwonye was working three jobs and attending Nursing classes at Bow Valley College.

Rinato Toy dies after shooting on a Calgary basketball court

Calgary police were called to a basketball court in the area of 4800 block of 14 Avenue S.E on June 3rd at around 9pm on report of a shooting.

Investigators said 2 masked men opened fire at the basketball court, injuring 3 men. Two of the men were taken to hospital  with non life threatening injuries. The third man Rinato Toy 22, died of his injuries.

Police believe the shooting was target. Toy was known to police, in 2016 Toy was charged with manslaughter in the 2015 death of Zakariah Abdow.

The death on Rinato Toy is Calgary’s 9th homicide this year. The 2017 Calgary Homicide Victim List is available here.

Update: Calgary police investigate suspicious death of an injured man who was dropped off at the hospital

Calgary police said that the victim was dropped off at a local hospital at 11:59 p.m., on Sunday, April 30 with life threatening injuries. The 40 year old victim died a short time after.

Police have located and have spoken to the person who dropped the victim off at hospital. Police believe the original crime scene to be in the community of Tuxedo.

The victim’s name has not been released at this time. An autopsy is scheduled for May 2nd.

Update May 2
The victim has been identifies as Timothy Albert Voytilla 44. Police do not believe the homicide to be random.

Update: Man dies after Sunalta C-Train station stabbing

Calgary police were called to the Sultana C-Train Station on April 28th at around 11:20pm on report of a fight between two men.

Police arrived to fine one man suffering from a serious stab wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victims name has not been released at this time.

Update May 4th
Police have released the identity of the victim. Eric Lavallee of no fixed address was stabbed to death on April 28th.

Police are asking for help from the public in locating Mark Lecaine, a person of intrest.

Update: Pastor charged, Police determine the 2015 death of 3 month old Cyrus Nel a homicide

Emergency crews were called to the 600 block of Taradale Drive N.E at around 9pm on August 31 2015 on report of an injured infant.

Three month old Cyrus Nel was found in medical distress and was transported to hospital where he died a day later.

Update: April 24th, 2017

After a lengthy investigation, homicide investigators believe the fatal injuries inflicted on Cyrus Nel happened in the family home.

Police said that they have spoken to the suspects, however no explanation has been given regarding Nel’s injuries.

Update May 12th 2017
Daniel Nel, 31, a pastor at Rockyview Alliance Church has been charged with the second degree murder of his son Cyrus.
