Hussam Ahmad Ismal shot to death inside a vehicle

Calgary police were called to the area of 2 Avenue N.E., and Centre Street N. on February 23rd at around 4:3 am, on report of a man in medical distress.

Police arrived to find a vehicle riddled with bullet holes and Hussam Ahmad Ismal 31, dead inside.

Police have not named any suspects at this time.

Dion James Bear, Calgary’s first homicide victim of 2017

Police and paramedics responded to a call of assistance,, a possible break & enter, at a home in the 100 block of Douglasbank Way S.E. at around 8 p.m. on January 16th.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene to find three injured people. Two of the three had non life threatening injuries, the third was suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Dion James Bear 39 was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries. Police said Bear did not live at the home where the shooting occurred.

Police have not laid any charges at this time.

Update: Calgary man dies of a gunshot wound to the head

Police are investigating after a 20 year old man was dropped off at the downtown Calgary medical centre, at around 9pm on January 23 suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Doctors found the man outside in life threatening condition and transferred him to Foothills Hospital for treatment.

The victim died in hospital this morning of his injury.

Update January 25th

Police have identified the victim as Itgel Baatarsuren, 22. Baatarsuren was left at the Sheldon Chumir Health Centre by a person driving a white Pontiac G5.


Update: Manslaughter charge in Christmas Day murder

Calgary police were call to the 0-100 block of Fonda Drive SE on December 25th at around 6:30pm on report of an injured man. The man was rushed to hospital where he died from his injuries.

Calgary police have charged Morris Stern in what they are calling a fatal stabbing. Police said Stern and the victim were known to each other. Stern has been charged with manslaughter.

Update January 4, 2017

Calgary police released the name of the Christmas day homicide victim. 45 year old Mark Maurice Mitchell’s name was announced once his next of kin was notified.

Update 4th man charged – Calgary Homicide 27: Ezzulddin Al-Ogaidi 17 found dead, 3 men charged

Calgary police were called to a residence on San Diego Way om Saturday December 3 for a check on welfare. When police arrived they did not find anyone in need of help.

Calgary Police received a call on December 4th reporting a possible murder that happened at the same home as the address the night before.

Police located the body of Ezzulddin Al-Ogaidi north of Morley on Monday December 5th. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Ahmed Abid, 24, Mohammed Khalil, 28, and Ashraf Jasem Ajil, 23, have all been charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

UPDATE December 8th
Martin Hamid Ahmet, 21, has been charged with manslaughter in the death of Al-Ogaid as well as careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm without a license and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.

The Death of Al-Ogaidi is the 27th homicide for Calgary this year. The 2016 Calgary homicide victims list is available here.

Calgary homicide #26: Richard Pember found dead in his home

On November 22 a man went to the Calgary Fire Department station at around 1:20 am saying that he needed help for hi injured roommate. Emergency crews arrived at the home on 1800 block of 17 Street S.W. to find 58 year old Richard Pember deceased.

Zachery Frederick Rider, 36, of no fixed address, has been charged with with second-degree murder, and aggravated assault on the man that contacted the fire department.

The death of Richard Pember is the 26th homicide in Calgary this year. The Calgary homicide victim list is available here.

Abiem Kuol Akel Abiem shot to death in Calgary’s 25th homicide

Calgary police were called to the 2400 block of 47 St. S.E in the community of Forest Lawn on November 11th at around 5am on reports of gunshots.

Police arrived to find Abiem Kuol Akel Abiem 23 dead in a basement suite.  Witnesses said they saw 3 men running from the scene, and jump into a small white car.

Police arrested three men in the evening of November 11th.

Matiop Nyok Okich, 21, Akieg Bol, 20, and Benjamin El-Ajak Nyiker, 23, have been charged with first degree murder.

Kyle Rowe shot to death on Halloween

Calgary Police are investigating after emergency crews were called to a home on the 100 block of Riverbend Drive S.E on October 31 at around 10:30am on report of an injured man.

On arrival Kyle Rowe 26, was found in the back seat of a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics declared Rowe dead at the scene.

Police said the victim was known to police and that they believe the attack was targeted.
