Update: Teen Charged with Murder – Winnipeg police investigate the homicide of Richard Dominic Anthony Contois

Winnipeg Police General Patrol unit was travelling on the Slaw Rebchuk Bridge when they located an injured adult male near a sidewalk on May 6th at 10:29pm.

The victim who has been identified as Richard Dominic Anthony Contois, 31-year-old of Winnipeg was transported to a hospital in critical condition where he died of his injuries

The incident is being investigated by the Major Crimes Unit.

Investigators ask anyone travelling on the bridge before the incident who feels they may have information that can help or dash-cam footage to contact detectives at 204-986-6219.

The murder of Richard Contois is the 4th Winnipeg homicide this month, and the 17th of 2022.

Update May 19th
Winnipeg police arrested a 17-year-old on May 17th and charged him with:

  • Second Degree Murder
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence x 2
  • Possess Weapon

The accused was also charged in relation to an aggravated assault that had occurred on February 2, 2022, in the 300 block of Charles Street. Two adults were seriously assaulted and taken to the hospital in critical condition. In this incident, he has been charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault x 2
  • Break & Enter – Commit Assault
  • Possess Weapon
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking x 2
