Winnipeg Homicide #20 – Double shooting leaves Danielle Dawn Cote deceased, and a man injured

Winnipeg police responded to report of a shooting in the 400 block of Flora Avenue on July 1st at approximately 3:15am.

It has been reported that an adult woman and an adult man were shot while walking down the street. The injured male victim sustained a critical injury but was able to make his way to a nearby convenience store where police were called. Police arrived to find the female victim deceased, and the male victim was rushed to the hospital. Police have not released the identity of the deceased at this time.

The female victim has been identified as Danielle Dawn Cote, 27.

Update July 3rd
At approximately 4 p.m., on July 2nd Winnipeg police located the suspect and he was taken into custody in the North Kildonan area. The 14-year-old suspect was also responsible for four recent shootings. The youth has been charged with:

  • First Degree Murder
  • Attempt to Commit Murder Using a Firearm
  • Attempt to Commit Murder
  • Aggravated Assault (x2)
  • Assault with a Weapon (x2)
  • Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Discharge a Firearm with Intent (x3)
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence

On July 3rd Winnipeg police took a 15-year-old male of Winnipeg into custody. He has been charged with:

– First Degree Murder
– Attempt to Commit Murder (x2)
– Aggravated Assault
– Discharge a Firearm with Intent
– Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order (x2)
