Winnipeg Homicide 14 – Victim Identified as Darrell Kablalik; Man Charged with Second-Degree Murder

Winnipeg police have identified the victim of a homicide that occurred on May 24, 2026, in the 700 block of Sargent Avenue as 48-year-old Darrell Kablalik of Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, who had been living in Winnipeg.

According to investigators, officers responded to reports of a fight at a residence shortly before 11 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Kablalik suffering from critical injuries. Officers provided emergency medical assistance before paramedics transported him to hospital, where he later died.

Police said the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. With assistance from the Tactical Support Team and the Drone Unit, officers located and arrested a suspect nearby without incident.

Following an investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit, 40-year-old Oluwatosin Akisanya was charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody.
