Winnipeg Homicide #11 – 57-year-old Brian James Brisson dies in hospital after being shot in broad daylight

Winnipeg police responded to the report of an injured man on April 15th at approximately 1:40 pm, at the intersection of Isabel Street and Ross Avenue. It has been reported y police that the victim was first located in the rear lane of Ross Avenue between Ross and Elgin near the intersection of Isabel Street and Ross Ave

Police and paramedics arrived to find a 57-year-old Brian James Brisson suffering from a gunshot wound. Brisson was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. It is believed that Brisson had been feeding stray cats in the area when he was shot.

Police are asking anyone who was in this area at the time (1:00 p.m.) and saw any suspicious or unusual activity to report this to the Homicide Unit at (204) 986-6508.

Update April 29th
Police have discovered that a 21-year old male who was cleaning debris in the ally between William Avenue and Elgin Avenue east of Isabel Street was also shot at, however, was missed and the male fled to safety.

On April 27th Winnipeg police arrested Darian John Thomas, 20, at a residence in the Centennial neighborhood, and charged him with Second Degree Murder, Attempt to Commit Murder Using a Firearm, Discharge a Firearm with Intent and Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition.
