Update: Two Men Charged with 1st degree murder – Walid Saraj fatally shot on New Year’s eve in Richmond Hill

York Region police received a call regarding a body located in the area of Gormley Court in Richmond Hill on December 31st at approximately 12:40pm.

Police arrived to find Walid Saraj, 35, of Whitchurch-Stouffville, deceased. An autopsy was performed and revealed the cause of death to be gunshot wounds.

Anyone who saw or spoke with the victim or has information on his whereabouts during that time frame to please contact police. Investigators are releasing a photo of the victim, provided by his family, in hopes that anyone who recalls seeing him will come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7865.

Update
On January 27th, 2022, YRP arrested Guled WARSAME, 29, of no fixed address and Wissame GHAITH, 18, of Gloucester. Both men have been charged with First Degree Murder.
