Vancouver police received several 9-1-1 calls for shots fired outside Cardero’s restaurant near Coal Harbour Quay and Cardero Street on April 17th at approximately 8:30pm.

Police located the victim Harpreet Singh Dhaliwal, 31, and performed lifesaving measures, however, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

Investigators believe the shooting was targeted, and do not believe there is a specific public safety risk at this time related to this incident.

According to reports Harpreet Dhaliwal was a Brothers Keepers gang member.

Vancouver police said Francois Joseph Gauthier, 51, has been charged with one count of first degree murder in relation to the homicide of Dhaliwal, and one count of possess a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm without being the holder of authorization or a license under which he may possess the firearm. He remains in custody until his next court appearance.
