The Toronto Star uncovers the unaccounted 2019 murder of Zohra Derouiche, 75

Zohra Derouiche, 75, was fatally stabbed by her husband Hassouna Soltani in their Scarborough home on Dec. 10, 2019. Her husband was later charged with second-degree murder after Derouiche died in hospital on December 20th 2019.

According to the Toronto star Soltani, 85, died on March 23rd 2021, after contracting COVID-19 at the Toronto East Detention Centre. The murder charge was formally withdrawn in court on Tuesday April 13th, 2021.

Toronto police never issued a press release or even notified the public of the death. Toronto Police spokesperson Connie Osborne said “It is usually the case that we proactively publish homicides. However, in this incident it wasn’t requested (by the investigating officer).”
