Stoney Nakoda RCMP responded to a home on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation on the request of a welfare check on a 6-month-old infant on August 25th.
Police arrived to find Tanayah Kootenay-Hunter deceased. An autopsy was completed on August 26th and determined the manner of death to be a homicide. The cause of death has not been released
On September 4th police announced that Tyriq Lyman Kootenay, 21, of Stoney Nakoda FN had been arrested, and charged with second degree murder in relation to the homicide of the infant. police said Kootenay has also been charged with causing bodily harm and choking with intent in an altercation involving a 24-year-old woman.
A gofundme campaign has been created to help the family purchase PPE, and flowers for the funeral.
