Saint John Police responded to a 911 call reporting a weapon-related incident in the Taylor Avenue area of Saint John on October 20th at around 12:17am. When officers arrived, they found an unconscious 41-year-old man suffering from serious injuries. Emergency responders provided medical assistance, and the victim was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police believe the incident was isolated. The Saint John Police Forensic Identification Services and the Major Crime Unit, in cooperation with the Coroner’s Office, began investigating and remained on scene collecting evidence.

Shortly after, around 12:37 a.m., police also responded to another incident on Foster Thurston Drive, believed to be connected.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the Saint John Police Major Crime Unit, assisted by the Street Crime Integrated Enforcement Unit (I.E.U.), arrested a 36-year-old male suspect inside a business on University Avenue without incident.

The man was charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm while prohibited, and breach of a probation order. He was held in custody and appeared in Provincial Court on October 21, 2025.

Furthering the same investigation, police arrested another suspect, a 35-year-old man, on Richmond Street in Saint John, also without incident.

The man, identified as Hunter Floyd, was charged with first-degree murder and held in custody. He appeared in Provincial Court on October 28, 2025, and was remanded until his next court date on November 18, 2025.

On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, as a result of an on-going investigation, the Saint John Major Crime Unit charged MacKenzie Moir with First Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited.

Moir is a federal inmate that was unlawfully at large at the time of the incident. Moir was arrested by the Oromocto RCMP on October 23, 2025.
