  1. Second Degree Murder

Update: At a court hearing in Toronto, Michael Calvo was found not criminally responsible (NCR) for the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend, Ana Paula Kitterhing De Sousa, on October 15, 2023, due to severe mental illness.

According to Global News, Dr. Iosif concluded that Calvo was psychotic—suffering from schizoaffective disorder or late-onset schizophrenia—and experiencing delusions that De Sousa was a WSIB agent trying to harm him.

Justice Jane Kelly accepted their findings, ruling that although Calvo understood his actions, his delusional beliefs prevented him from recognizing their wrongfulness.
