The 2023 Toronto Homicide Victim List is available here

Toronto police received a call for a stabbing in the Markham Road and Lawrence Ave East area on June 30th at approximately 12:22 p.m.

Police arrived to find Maxim Karyakin, 30, of Toronto suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Police began life-saving measures, and the victim was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where he was pronounced deceased.

On Sunday, July 2, 2023, Davy Balan, 56, of Toronto was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder.

Investigators from the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit are appealing to any witnesses who were in the area on Friday, June 30, 2023, between 12:15 p.m. and 12:45 p.m., and have dashcam video to contact police at 416-808-7400, or attend 43 Division, or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), or at www.222tips.com.
